The electronic signatures have been adopted by Government agencies in many countries, as it is a regulatory necessity. Several countries like USA, EU nations, Canada, Egypt, Chile, Brazil, India, Uruguay, Turkey, Switzerland etc. have enacted a digital signature law or regulation to ensure integrity of electronic data and records. These countries have given legal validity to electronic and digital signatures. Many countries have also enacted laws requiring government agencies to use electronic format, thereby eliminating paperwork, wherever practicable (viz. GPEA Act). Several laws aim at promoting electronic and digital signatures, as these are essential for e-commerce and e-communication (viz. Directive 1999/93/Ec of European parliament and council). |
